Hey!

Hey everyone. I'm posting a blog yay! I wrote a poem for my world lit class last week comparing gender roles in The Odyssey, and my mom wanted me to post it up here so I will. I don't know what my grade is yet, but I'll let you know.

They are treated unequally
In a world so small.
Who is above who?
Causing each other to fall.
But the men are in the right,
Women get nothing at all.

Tales of love and justice,
But who pays the price?
Men get the glory.
Women cook the rice.

A man is a hero
Never in the wrong.
He destroys a city
And a bard writes a song.

Always faithful and submissive
Are women expected to be,
Unless they are Calypso or Circe,
Or seductive sirens of the sea.

And who gets excused
From the ties of matrimony?
The great heroes and men.
Why shouldn't they be free?

Men sacrifice much for their land.
Patriarchs of the estate.
So if the opportunity presents itself,
They're allowed a taste.

And what a thrill it is
For a maid to have a lover.
Too often she finds however
He is a god undercover.

Goddesses tower over men,
Possessing powers greater than they.
However despite their strength,
Even they fall to love's prey.

And what of the wives
While their husbands go to play?
They are at home all alone
Pining their lives away.

Why battle to be with the one you love,
Moaning of loneliness and fear,
When, while the tears are dripping off your chin
Someone else is whispering in your ear?

A man can quench the sadness
While remaining faithful to his love.
A woman quenches her sadness
And she blames it on a dove.

Loving to fight,
And fighting to love,
While the gods sit and laugh
Watching from above.

You are a great writer. I enjoyed reading this poem and I could relate. I don't know if that is good or bad, but it is honest.
